Andy SeedJames Nicol grew up on a rich diet of Ursula le Guin, Roald Dahl and fairy stories before pursuing a career in bookshops and libraries. His eureka moment came when reading The Witches to school children and he resolved there and then to write his own book about witches. He lives in Yorkshire.

James' The Apprentice Witch series is published by Chicken House in the UK and Germany, Scholastic Inc in the US, Gallimard in France and in several other foreign territories, and was longlisted for the Branford Boase and Waterstone’s Children’s Books Prize and shortlisted for the Stockport Book Awards 2017.
